IMF Delegation soon in Belgrade - Public companies' reform is priority

Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Serbia Sebastian Sosa said on Sunday (June 19, 2017) that long-term objectives, priorities and challenges will be the topic of the upcoming arrival of the IMF mission in the new control of the agreement with Serbia.

- The reform of public companies is obviously a priority in the current program with Serbia which IMF supports - Sosa said for RTS

Sosa also said the IMF expects to continue close cooperation with Serbian officials, and expressed belief in good cooperation with the future government and the Prime Minister.

- We expect to continue close cooperation with Serbian officials. Of course, we have already cooperated with a mandate, we know her and have had good cooperation with her – Sosa said.

He said Serbia, if it wants to make full progress in what it has been doing for the past two years in terms of macroeconomic performance and if it wants to complete reforms that "then the reform of public companies must be a clear priority"

When asked whether there will be discussions on wages and pensions increase, Sosa said that it has not been discussed during budget 2017 preparation.

- Usually this is a topic when preparing next year’s budget so it is still early to talk about the details, it is still a topic for the next mission – Sosa said.

He said that objective of IMF is to discuss with Serbian officials long-term objectives, priorities and challenges as well as new control of the arrangements and a report on what has been done in the program with Serbia.

- This will be our seventh audit, the last one was in December last year and we come for audit every six months. This will the control of eight months ahead of the agreement end – Sosa said.

According to him, program implementation and progress will be discussed "and of course we will make a plan what needs still to be done in the future."

In Belgrade, in for four days, IMF mission should arrive for new control of the agreement with Serbia. Sosa also announced that the delegation from Washington will stay in Belgrade until July 4.
